Lab: Students

Eva Cheng is a lab manager at the Data Innovation Lab and a predoctoral research assistant at Berkeley Haas School of Business.  She earned a Master’s in International and Development Economics from Yale University and a Bachelor’s in Economics from UC San Diego. She is interested in the intersection of innovation and economics.

Cecil-Francis Brenninkmeijer is a lab manager at the Data Innovation Lab and a predoctoral research assistant at Berkeley Haas School of Business. He graduated from Georgetown University with a Bachelor’s in Economics and is excited to work with emerging data sources to identify causal effects.

Matteo Tranchero is a Ph.D. candidate in Management of Organizations at the Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley. He researches the role of data availability in the generation of novel knowledge, with a focus on how genomic data are changing the search for innovation in the pharmaceutical industry.

Saqib Mumtaz is a fourth-year Ph.D. student in the Management of Organizations (Macro) track at the Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley. He is interested in innovation, entrepreneurship, and science of science. His current research is investigating impediments facing the diffusion of academic research to industrial applications.

Srikanth Janjirala is a first-year Ph.D. candidate in Management of Organizations (Macro track) at the Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley. His research interests include innovation management, design innovation, and science of science. He holds an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta and a Bachelor’s in Engineering design from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras.

Eunice Mercado is a fellow at the Data Innovation Lab. She is a former Open & Equitable Program Manager at the Open Research Funders Group, former Civic Science Fellow (2021-2023), and former Deputy Director for Science and Technology Policy at the Mexican Council for Science and Technology. She has worked in the public and private sectors to help government agencies and philanthropic funders develop open research policies and academic institutions to align their incentives to this end.

Jai Singh is an undergraduate student at UC Berkeley interested in quantitative economics research, particularly economic development and public policy. He loves working with data to solve interesting and impactful problems.

Jennifer Chen is a senior majoring in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research. She is interested in the intersection of business and STEM. She is excited to join the Data Innovation Lab to analyze modern innovation through the lens of data analytics. She is looking forward to pursuing graduate studies in IEOR. In her free time, she enjoys solving sudoku puzzles, making realism art, composing music, and jamming on her keyboard.

Jiamei (Jasmine) Xu is a senior studying Business Administration and Applied Mathematics at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Her research interests lie at the intersection of gender studies and entrepreneurship. She aspires to leverage her expertise in the future to address inequality and foster a more inclusive business environment.

Stella Jia is a junior majoring in Data Science at UC Berkeley. She is interested in taking a data-driven approach to explore innovation, decision science, and generative AI. In her free time, she enjoys running, reading, and helping others create organizational spaces on Notion.
